If you're a Filipino freelancer, remote worker, or online entrepreneur dreaming of living in Spain, the Spain Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) could be your golden ticket. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about how Filipinos can apply for the Spain DNV in 2025.

We’re MJ & Seven, a Filipino couple who moved to Spain through the DNV, and we know firsthand how confusing the requirements can look at first. That’s why we’ve put together this guide — a simplified, friendly walkthrough of what the visa is, who can apply, and how the process works.

What Is the Spain Digital Nomad Visa?

The Spain Digital Nomad Visa is a special residence visa that allows non-EU citizens, including Filipinos, to legally live in Spain while working remotely for companies or clients based outside the country. It’s designed for digital nomads, remote employees, and freelance professionals. Basically, if your income comes from abroad, Spain lets you enjoy its lifestyle while continuing your work online.

Can Filipinos Apply for the Spain DNV?

Yes, absolutely! Filipinos are eligible to apply as long as you meet the main criteria:

  • You work remotely (as a freelancer, contractor, or employee of a foreign company).
  • You have a university degree or at least 3+ years of relevant work experience in your field.
  • You’ve worked for at least 3 months for a company that’s been operating for at least 1 year.
  • You earn a monthly salary of at least €2,762.66 (around PHP 176,000 depending on exchange rates).

Sounds intimidating? We thought so too at first, but when you break it down step by step, it’s more doable than it looks.

Spain DNV update (2026) on financial requirement of the main applicant

  • 1 (main) applicant - €2800 / month
  • with 1 dependent / with spouse - €3800
  • with 2 dependents - €4200
  • with 3 dependents - €4500

What Are the Requirements?

Here’s a simplified checklist of the key documents you’ll need as a Filipino applicant:

  • A valid non-EU passport (yes, our Philippine passport qualifies).
  • Proof of remote work (contracts, freelance agreements, or employment letters).
  • Clean police record (NBI clearance for Filipinos).
  • Private health insurance valid in Spain.
  • Bank statements or payslips showing steady income.
  • Diplomas and education documents (or work certificates).
  • Apostilled documents.
  • Official Spanish translations.

Yes, it’s paperwork-heavy — but trust us, once you’re enjoying tapas in Oviedo or watching sunsets in Asturias, it’s worth every document.

Where Can Filipinos Apply for the Spain DNV?

You have two main options:

Apply Inside Spain

  • Enter on a Schengen Tourist Visa.
  • Apply online for the Spain Digital Nomad Visa once you’re in the country.
  • If approved, you’ll receive up to a 3-year residence permit.

This option is great if you already plan to travel to Spain and have the budget for the Schengen visa.

Apply From the Philippines

  • Go through the Spanish Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines.
  • Apply for the 1-year Digital Nomad Visa.
  • Once in Spain, you can upgrade it to a 3-year residence permit.

This is usually the most affordable and straightforward path for Filipinos.

Step-by-Step Application Process (Simplified)

  • Request for NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) – your foreigner ID number.
  • Gather all the requirements.
  • Apostille your documents.
  • Have them officially translated into Spanish.
  • Submit your application (via BLS or Embassy).
  • Wait for approval.

Final Thoughts

Applying for the Spain Digital Nomad Visa as a Filipino takes effort — but it opens the door to a completely new life. For us, it meant building a slower, more intentional lifestyle in Asturias while keeping our careers online.

If your dream is to live in Spain, travel Europe, and maybe even become a Spanish citizen after 2 years (yes, Filipinos are eligible much earlier than most nationalities!), then the DNV is one of the best opportunities out there. So if you’ve been searching for a sign — this might be it.
